At the end of 2021 and into early 2022, Selangor experienced one of the worst floods in 50 years. Torrential rain inundated low-lying areas, with water levels rising up to 10–15 feet in places like Shah Alam, Klang, Sepang, and Hulu Langat. Thousands of homes and belongings were destroyed, leaving communities reeling from the devastation. Among those hit hardest were 18 Orang Asli villages across Sepang, Pulau Carey, and Ulu Langat, home to the Temuan and Mahmeri tribes. This disaster called for urgent action, and 4x4 Relief Malaysia, alongside our incredible partners, stepped in to assist.

Coordinated Relief Efforts for Orang Asli Communities
Collaborating with the Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur, we established an operational hub at the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation Hall from December 27, 2021, to January 3, 2022. Over this intense week, we prepared and distributed essential aid to 650 Orang Asli families, supporting an estimated 2,600 individuals across 18 villages. Each family received:
Food Ration Packs: Containing rice, sardines, milk, sugar, cooking oil, eggs, bihun, biscuits, tea, and other staples to last 1.5 months.
Hygiene Kits: Including soaps, toothbrushes, face towels, sarongs, face masks, sanitizers, washing powder, brooms, and pails.
Medical Kits: Stocked with basic medicines for fever, flu, and first-aid essentials.
The following are the numbers of families affected in the respective region:
Kuala Langat, Klang Region
1. Bkt Serdang 55
2. Sg Kurau 74
3. Sg Judah 35
4. Bakar Leleh 16
5. Sg Bumbun 10
6. Kepau Laut 60
7. Sg Rambai 30
8. Pulau Indah 92
Total 387 Families
Ulu Langat Region
1. Paya Lebar 71
2. Genting Peres 50
Total 121 Families
The scale of this operation was immense. More than 100 volunteers, equipped with 40 4x4 vehicles, tirelessly worked to deliver aid across the affected areas. Kiwanis Club generously funded the food rations, while 4x4 Relief raised over RM 60,000 for hygiene and medical kits. Special thanks to our corporate donors:

and many others—as well as JAKOA Selangor and the Koperasi Pembangunan Orang Asli for facilitating the mission seamlessly.

Reaching the most isolated
Despite logistical challenges, including washed-out roads and remote locations, we managed to reach even the most isolated villages. For instance, Kampung Genting Peres, which had been completely cut off for 20 days due to landslides, was accessible only by foot. Undeterred, our volunteers braved these obstacles to ensure aid reached those in need.

Supporting Schoolchildren
Floodwaters also wreaked havoc on Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Mahang in Kuala Selangor, an evacuation center that itself was submerged under three feet of muddy water. The 565 students from Years 1 to 6 lost their books, bags, shoes, and uniforms in the disaster. Recognizing the importance of education, we worked to provide replacement supplies and support to help these children return to school.

Gratitude and Reflection
This mission was a collective effort, and we owe its success to the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, donors, and partners. To the Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur, thank you for your steadfast partnership. To every individual and organization who contributed, whether through financial support, donations in kind, or on-the-ground efforts—your generosity has made a profound difference.
The Selangor floods reminded us of the power of unity and compassion. While the recovery journey continues for many, we remain committed to supporting these communities, building resilience, and ensuring that no one is left behind in times of crisis. Together, we can overcome even the toughest challenges and create a brighter, more secure future for all.
