Executive Summary

In Kg Pos Bering, we have worked closely with villagers, volunteers, and sponsors to create sustainable improvements that address both infrastructure and community well-being. Key initiatives include building a Rumah Baca to support education, constructing toilet facilities with eco-friendly materials, building chicken coop to increase food security and income stream, and providing hygiene kits and health screenings during the COVID-19 pandemic to safeguard the community’s health. These projects are designed not only to meet immediate needs but also to enhance the quality of life for the villagers in the long term.

In addition to physical improvements, we have focused on fostering strong connections through shared activities like kenduri feasts and sports events, where villagers and volunteers come together to bond and build relationships. These efforts have brought practical benefits while strengthening the community’s spirit, creating a foundation for a brighter, healthier future.

Accomplishments

  1. Rumah Baca

Welcome to our very first Rumah Baca prototype! We’ve built this 20ft x 100ft space to give local villagers a place where they can teach and nurture children in their community.

What makes this Rumah Baca extra special is how it was built together with the villagers. They didn’t just help out—they wove stunning bamboo panels in different designs to decorate the space, giving it a beautiful and authentic tribal touch. A huge thank-you goes out to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen—you’re amazing!

Inside, we’ve included a kitchen and a storeroom, fully furnished and ready to go. These spaces are super important because the teacher prepares a simple breakfast for the kids before class every day. We wanted the Rumah Baca to feel like a warm and welcoming place, not just for learning, but also for building community.

A Big Shoutout To:

Tetra Pak for generously sponsoring the wall panels.

Epic Home for teaming up with us and bringing in so many skilled volunteers.

  1. Toilets

This is our prototype bamboo toilet, thoughtfully designed and built to meet the community’s needs. Constructing it was no small feat—we started by digging a 6-foot hole to install septic tanks, then connected the piping to the squatting toilet. To ensure the toilet is fully functional, we also installed a water tank to provide a steady supply of water for both showering and flushing.

Toilets are more than just a convenience—they are essential for maintaining clean hygiene and preventing the spread of diseases. This bamboo toilet is not only practical but also environmentally mindful, blending seamlessly with the local surroundings.

A massive shoutout goes to the amazing volunteers from Epic Homes, whose expertise and dedication made this project possible. Your skillful craftsmanship and hard work have been instrumental in bringing this prototype to life.

With access to clean and safe toilets, the villagers can enjoy better health and a higher quality of life.

After completing the bamboo toilet, we took the opportunity to refine and enhance the design. Our improved version now includes two separate toilet units, each equipped with both a shower and a toilet. To ensure durability and long-term functionality, these units are constructed using a sturdy steel frame structure and eco-friendly Tetra Pak panels for the walls, providing better insulation and resilience.

The foundational work remains the same: we dig a 6-foot-deep hole for the septic tanks, carefully install the piping system, and connect it to the toilets and showers. This ensures proper waste management and a reliable flow of water for all essential functions.

  1. Chicken coop

We also took steps to enhance food security and provide income-generating opportunities for the villagers by constructing several chicken coops. Along with the coops, we supplied chicks and chicken feed to households interested in raising poultry. The eggs produced not only add a reliable source of nutrition to the community’s diet but also contribute to improving food security.

For households looking to generate extra income, the chickens can be sold at the nearby Gua Musang township, creating a sustainable livelihood option. This initiative empowers families with a practical way to support themselves while fostering economic resilience within the village.

  1. Food Distribution

Food aid has been an essential part of every single trip we’ve made to Kg Pos Bering. It’s a commitment we hold close to our hearts, ensuring that each visit brings not only connection and support but also tangible relief to the community.

We couldn’t do this alone, and we’re incredibly grateful to our amazing sponsors who have made these food aid missions possible time and time again. A massive thank-you to:

  • RISE Against Hunger

  • Ferris Wheel

  • ECM Libra

  • SALAM Group

Thanks to all of you, every trip to Kg Pos Bering has been an opportunity to provide much-needed food aid and bring hope to the villagers. Together, we’re making a real difference—one meal, one mission at a time.

  1. Medical Camp

In remote areas like Kampung Pos Bering, access to healthcare is often limited. To help bridge this gap, we’ve partnered with REMEDIC Healthcare Foundation (RHF) to bring doctors directly into the kampung. They provided essential medical consultations to the villagers, ensuring they received the care they needed. In addition, we distributed basic medicines to treat common ailments, improving overall health and well-being in the community.

  1. Kenduri for the entire kampung

One of the highlights of every trip is the kenduri, a special feast we organize for the entire kampung. Our amazing head chef volunteer, Krog, and his dedicated kitchen crew take charge, cooking up a delicious meal that brings everyone together.

What makes the kenduri even more memorable is the spirit of togetherness. Our volunteers join in the tradition by dressing in sarongs and serving food to the villagers, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the evening. Meanwhile, the villagers dress in their best outfits and proudly wear their tribal headgear, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere.

This isn’t just a dinner—it’s a time for bonding, sharing stories, and building connections. It’s moments like these that strengthen the ties between us and the community, leaving everyone with a warm heart and wonderful memories.

  1. Hygiene kit and Medicine distribution

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we stepped up our efforts to support the health and safety of the villagers. In addition to our usual initiatives, we distributed hygiene kits that included essentials like hand sanitizers and masks to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Recognizing the importance of healthcare access during such a critical time, we also collaborated with doctors who conducted basic health screenings for the villagers. These screenings provided an opportunity to assess their overall well-being and address any health concerns. Medicines were prescribed and distributed as needed, ensuring that the community had access to vital medical care.

Special shoutout to:

SALAM Group for sponsoring the medicines

  1. Sports and games

What better way to bring the community together and foster meaningful connections than through sports and games? These activities create the perfect opportunity for everyone to bond, have fun, and enjoy a sense of teamwork. For the kids, we organized a variety of engaging games that kept their energy high and their spirits even higher.

For the adults, we brought everyone together for exciting sports matches, including football and volley ball. The best part? Both volunteers and villagers joined in, playing side by side. These moments of shared laughter, friendly competition, and teamwork helped strengthen relationships and create lasting memories for everyone involved.

  1. Solar Light

To brighten the lives of the villagers, we installed solar lights at each house, transforming the nightscape of the community. These lights not only illuminate the homes but also enhance safety and mobility after dark, making it easier for families to move around and carry out evening activities.

The solar-powered system is both sustainable and environmentally friendly, providing a reliable source of light without the need for costly electricity or fuel. This simple yet impactful initiative has brought newfound convenience and comfort to the villagers, while also lighting up the night sky with a warm, welcoming glow.

At last, a huge thanks to all sponsors, whether in cash or in kind, all volunteers, for their generosity, efforts, and times in making these missions a huge success.
